Workshop helping homeowners be better prepared for disasters

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) – After recent floods, some homeowners across the Stateline are now realizing they weren’t as prepared as they could have been.

FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport hosts disaster preparedness workshops today to inform homeowners what they can do to be better prepared for a disaster such as a fire or flooding like we’ve seen recently.

The workshop covers steps homeowners can take and items people should keep on hand in case of an emergency. They also discuss insurance policies and what to do after a disaster strikes.

“The best way to ensure our safety and security at home is to plan for it in the first place because there are a lot of things that we can do to help mitigate that risk but usually requires taking some action in advance,” says Autumn Lotze, Senior Resilience Specialist.

The workshop also encourages families to create an emergency plan for their home to make sure everyone knows what to do in an emergency situation.
