Police charge 33-year-old man for 'suspicious' Rockford death

UPDATED: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has charged a man for the death of 36-year-old Jennifer Lewis earlier this month.

Fredrick Thomas, 33, of faces nine counts of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Thomas caused injuries resulting in the death of Lewis.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the body.

She was found unresponsive around 11 a.m. on September 11 in the 900 block of 10th Avenue.

Thomas served the indictment while already in custody. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

The charges are punishable between 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by supervise release.

Thomas is scheduled to be in court Friday, Sept. 28.

He is considered innocent until proven guilty in the court of law

Coroner Bill Hintz says the preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma to the body.

An investigation is ongoing.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A 36-year-old woman's death is being investigated as "suspicious" after she's found Tuesday near 10th Avenue.

Rockford police were called to assist an unresponsive woman just after 8 a.m. at an apartment in the 900 block of 10th Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found a deceased 36-year-old woman.

Detectives are treating the case as a suspicious death.
