UPDATE: Man charged in May shooting death of Rockford woman

UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - An 18-year-old Rockford man is charged with the May 16 shooting death of Desiree Weir-Stephens on Royal Avenue in Rockford.

Matthew L. Cavender faces 12 counts of first-degree murder. If found guilty, he could spend up to 60 years in prison.

He also faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, mob action and not having a valid firearm owners identification card.

Cavender's bond is set at $1 million. His first appearance in court is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday.
UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Winnebago County Coroner's Office says the 30-year-old woman killed outside her home Wednesday is Desiree Weir-Stephens, of Rockford.

Investigators say Weir-Stephens died of a gunshot wound to the head.
UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR)- The woman shot in the head outside her home in the 200 block of Royal Avenue has died, according to Winnebago County Coroner William Hintz.

The name of the women has not yet been released. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford police are investigating a shooting in the 200 block of Royal Avenue in Rockford.

Investigators say a woman in her 30's was shot outside her home and has life-threatening injuries. They say the woman was shot in the upper body.

Police are questioning witnesses and neighbors at this time.

Police are looking for a black man in his teens or 20's wearing a blue shirt and jeans.
