Woman beaten, robbed while trying to buy drugs in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A woman was beaten and robbed by two men after she tried to purchase drugs in Rockford.

Police say the victim, a 59-year-old woman, was beaten around 12:30 a.m. Monday in the 500 block of Cherry Street.

The victim reportedly was discussing the deal when two suspects, one armed with a gun, approached her. Officers say the suspects beat the woman and took off with her cash.

Police say the victim was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.

One suspect was described as a black man around 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt and black pants.

The other suspect is described as a white man around 25 years old. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants carrying a black backpack with orange stripes.
