Winter Weather Advisory for some: Light snow west will mix with drizzle moving east

By  |

Light snow is beginning in spots west of Rockford. Spots include Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll and Whiteside Counties in Illinois along with Green County in Wisconsin. These areas are NOT included in the Winter Weather Advisory, as these areas will see more light snow compared to freezing rain/drizzle. This will continue Sunday evening into the overnight hours, where it will come to an end.

The Winter Weather Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service Sunday evening and will stay in effect until 4 a.m. Monday. As this line of light snow moves east, it'll gradually mix with more freezing drizzle and become mainly drizzle too. This is why the Advisory was issued! Counties included in the Advisory are Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, DeKalb, Ogle and Lee Counties.

In terms of snowfall accumulation, it'll be very little if any. Areas west of Rockford could see in excess of perhaps half an inch to maybe an inch of snow. The rest of the Stateline will see more of a dusting if anything before the snow turns into more freezing drizzle

The patchy freezing drizzle will result in icy spots once again on the roads, as temperatures remain slightly below freezing Sunday evening. If you will be out driving late Sunday evening or overnight into Monday, slow down on the roads especially if they are untreated!

We are thinking this line of light snow and freezing drizzle will be done by the Monday a.m. commute but still be cautious should you see a slick spot.
