WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) -- The night before Thanksgiving marks one of the busiest times of the year for travel.
If you're looking for a safe ride home on Thanksgiving Eve, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office looks to help.
In an effort to keep the roads safe and free of drunk drivers on Thanksgiving Eve, the sheriff's office and Hayes Beer Distributing of Rockford partner up for this year's Safe Ride Home Program.
Those who are incapable of driving or riding home safely in Winnebago County from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. should contact the sheriff's office.
While deputies previously provided the service on New Year's Eve, the sheriff says adding the safe ride program for Thanksgiving Eve was necessary.
"We want to make sure everybody stays safe," says Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana. "It's a good way to kick off the holiday and say, 'hey, look for your friends, your loved ones, you family.' Give us a call, call the sheriff's office.
To schedule appointments, contact the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office at 815-319-6000.
"We're not looking to judge you," says Caruana. "We're looking to take you home and keep you safe so you can enjoy the rest of the Thanksgiving weekend."
