ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) ----- "We will be relentless in our effort to eradicate the gun violence in our community."
The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office announced Eric L. Brown, Jr. has been charged with first degree murder, home invasion, and armed robbery for the October shooting death of 40-year-old Robert Wash, also known as P-Dice.
"I want to reassure those families out there who have individuals that may have been victims of violence in the community that my office will continue to work with law enforcement to bring those individuals to justice," said Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross.
The East High alum and popular community member was shot outside an apartment building in the 4900 block of Harrison Avenue, marking the city's 17th homicide victim of the year.
"We're chipping away at the stone and we're getting rid of the violent offenders," said Rockford Police Chief Dan O’Shea.
O'Shea says this announcement highlights the hard work and dedication of those behind the badge.
"The tenacity of the investigators and the officers that work these cases, in conjunction with the community, is nothing short of amazing," said O’Shea.
Brown faces up to life in prison for the crimes if convicted, and is currently being held in the Winnebago County Jail on a $5 million bond.
