ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR)--- Progress on the planned consolidation of Winnebago County 911 calls continues but a snag in the agreement lead to a minor setback.
The plan calls for all municipalities in the county to share the costs to keep the 911 call center running but what's in question is how much oversight the smaller jurisdictions will have when it comes to future budget decisions.
"We were real close to reaching an agreement where everybody was happy. Some issues popped up, probably some legal issues and now we're not going to go all the way back to the drawing board, we're just going to take a couple steps back," says chairperson public safety committee Aaron Booker.
Before the agreement is sent to the county board for the full approval, a smaller group will meet before the next county board meeting. Booker along with the chairperson of the operations committee and selected county board members are meeting with coalition members and the state's attorney's office to make sure everyone is in agreement.
Booker says the main purpose of the sub committee is to ensure transparency and to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
County board members are hopeful that the agreement will be finished and brought to the floor in the upcoming country board meeting.
