Norwegian Restaurant set to open in Rockford after three years of remodeling

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) -- The Norwegian Restaurant building has come a long way since the restaurant owner bought the building three years ago.

The Norwegian, located on North Main Street in Rockford is set to open its doors Saturday morning. Emily Hurd bought the building three years ago and has completely remodeled the building.

"I feel once the doors are opened to the public we're treating our soft open like a grand," Hurd says. "It's a big deal to have our doors open in any case."

Hurd and her husband have transformed part of the building into a nordic-designed restaurant. The Norwegian name comes from the Hurd family heritage.

While Hurd says the process has been challenging at times, she is ready to hit the ground running. The restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch daily and will be open in the evenings for special events on Rockford's west side.

The restaurant opens at 7 a.m. Saturday at 1402 N. Main St. in Rockford.
