West side apartment fire ruled accidental, damage estimate at $30K

ROCKFORD TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WIFR) -- Investigators say a fire in an apartment complex on Rockford’s west side Saturday afternoon was started accidentally.

The fire at 2625 Halsted Road caused $30,000 of damage. Fire crews had to upgrade to a second alarm because of the cold weather and the size of the building. They were able to control is in about 12 minutes.

Only one apartment had fire damage, but the entire building has smoke damage.

All apartments are able to be lived in except the one with fire damage. No one was hurt.
