CHICAGO (AP) -- Ice and wind force O'Hare and Midway International airports to cancel about 1,000 flights.

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the Chicago Department of Aviation's online flight-tracking website showed about 950 flights halted at O'Hare and more than 50 at Midway.

The department says that delays at O'Hare and Midway were averaging around 15 minutes.

The airlines urge people to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
