ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford placed 13th in highest employment growth among 120 cities, according to WalletHub's 2018's Best & Worst Illinois Cities for Jobs report.

"As far as employment growth, we're in the top echelon of communities that they reviewed," Rockford Mayor Thomas McNamara said. "I think that is very indicative of the growth that we're seeing."

Employment growth was one of 16 factors used to rank Illinois' Best Cities for Jobs.

Rockford finished 99 out of 120 in the state ranks overall.

"I think this is a positive ranking for the city of Rockford," McNamara said. "I think you obviously see some areas where we need to improve. But as you look at job opportunities for residents in the city of Rockford, we're above average."

According to the report, the top 46 cities for jobs were all Chicago suburbs, including St. Charles, Illinois as the top city. Neighboring cities Belvidere, Machesney Park, Loves Park and Freeport all finished in the Top 90.

Rockford also ranked among the top one-third of Illinois cities in several factors, including 22nd in Time Spent Working and Commuting, 28th in Housing Costs and 32nd in Average Starting Salary.
