Child treated for minor burns in afternoon Rockford house fire

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Updated: Jan. 11, 2019, 5:50 p.m.

Fire officials say a child was treated for a minor burn after escaping a structure fire in a east Rockford home.

The child was able to escape safely along with two adults and a dog.

Crews were able to put out the fire in about 10 minutes. Officials believe the fire caused $30,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Rockford fire officials say everyone escaped safely from a house fire that broke out Friday afternoon in east Rockford.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the 3800 block of 16th Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Crews reported after reports of heavy smoke.

Investigators are looking into the cause. We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
