Valentine's Day programs canceled at Cherry Valley Elementary

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Multiple parents are saddened to find that holiday programming like Valentine's Day will no longer be celebrated in school.

Parents of Cherry Valley Elementary received letters at the beginning of the year explaining a focus on educational programming.

Jess Parker who's daughter attends Cherry Valley says it might seem trivial and small for adults but it means so much more to the students.

"My daughter is still so bummed out that all these valentine's day cards shes been making for her friends, she doesn't get to give them out," says Parker.

Other schools in the district are still celebrating the holiday; Johnson Elementary is using the holiday to fund-raise for a new stage curtain.

Teachers and parents are hosting Valentine Bingo on Feb. 8.
