UPDATE: LOVES PARK (WIFR) --
Many people know the Advantage Auto Sales car lot because of the old fire truck that has sat on the corner of North Second in Loves Park for years. But this morning, there were real fire trucks outside, as crews battles massive flames.
Around 6:30 this morning, firefighters were called to the lot. When they arrived, the business was already fully engulfed in flames.
The owner of the business, Steve Luscak was in Wisconsin at the time of the fire, and no employees were inside at the time. However, because the lot was filled with cars, and about 10 of those were damaged in the flames, firefighters tell us it was unusually difficult to control the flames.
"The vehicles that were parked close to the building, there were several vehicles that caught on the fire. You just don't have a lot of room to operate on the property itself when you're still trying maintain not damaging the cars that had already not been damaged by the fire," says Loves Park Fire Chief, Phil Foley.
Advantage Auto owner Luscak tells us the titles for all of the cars were kept inside the business within a fireproof safe. He says, despite some water damage, they were all able to be salvaged.
The building is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We'll give you updates as we receive them.
