One child is in critical condition and two others were sent to a hospital after a two-car collision at North Main Street and Elmwood Road.

Rockford police say the child, a male juvenile, is currently in critical condition. He was riding in a silver SUV with a 25-year-old woman, who police say has non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a white SUV collided with the silver SUV, which was turning left from Elmwood to head north on North Main Street.

A 34-year-old man, who police say was driving the white SUV was also sent to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rockford police say the intersection will be shut down for the next several hours as officers investigate. Drivers are encouraged

to use Route 251 as an alternate route.

At least two people are battling life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning after a car accident at North Main Street and Elmwood Road, according to fire officials.

Rockford Fire says extrication was happening for at least one more person, shortly after 11 a.m.

Rockford police tell 23 News one person was ejected from a vehicle in the crash.

Officials say there was a multi-vehicle collision. Multiple emergency crews responded to the crash.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area. We will update as more information becomes available.
