Two arrested after Dixon bank foils forged check

DIXON, Ill. (WIFR) -- Two people were arrested for allegedly attempting to pass a forged check at a Dixon bank.

Maggie Scarbrough, 19, of Dixon, and Eric Smith, 39, of Sterling, were arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Scarbrough and Smith tried to pass a forged check at Midland States Bank at 212 North Hennepin Avenue. The bank contacted police around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Scarbrough was charged with forgery, in addition to warrants from Lee County, Whiteside County and Kosciusko County. One of her warrants was for failure to appear in court over methamphetamine charges.

Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful possession of methamphetamine, in addition to warrants from Lee County, Whiteside County and Kosciusko County.

Scarbrough and Smith were taken to Lee County Jail. They are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
