Towing leaders offer driving advice during snowy, icy conditions

Freezing temperatures and snowfall return to the Stateline on Tuesday, and towing companies are urging drivers to take it slow.

Experts say most accidents come from speeding and not giving enough distance between other cars during winter storms.

A to Z Towing President Bill Wishard recommends letting up on the accelerator and steering with caution if you feel like you're losing control. He says most accidents can be avoided by slowing down.

"The old rule was three seconds, you might want to go five seconds from the vehicle in front of you," said Wishard. "Basically just slow down and pay attention to what's going on."

Wishard says several drivers are also distracted by their phones and should not use on while driving. However, he recommends keeping one handy in the car in case of an emergency.

For drivers worried about getting stuck, Wishard says it's also a good idea to keep a bag of salt and other emergency supplies in the car.
