According to shopify.com, Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday are the biggest online shopping days. This gives porch pirates the opportunity to steal packages.

“People can ship to here, we charge a three dollar fee to receive packages, so if somebody wanted to have their ordered [from] Amazon but they have it delivered to here, they can deliver it here,” says Patty Hinkle, co-owner of Postal Shoppe.

Other tips to consider are having your package delivered to your workplace, indicating special instructions for deliveries, using mailbox services or opting for a mail holding service.

"If they see anything that looks suspicious in the neighborhood where they live, make sure that they contact local authorities and the post office as well," says Sean Hargadon, spokesperson for the US Postal Service.
