Three arrested for shots fired, hit-and-run in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Three men were arrested for a hit-and-run crash that involved gunfire over the weekend in Rockford.

Jeremiah Coleman, 18, Mardarius Wright, 18, and Dontaye Banks, 22, were arrested Sunday morning.

Rockford police responded to a shots fired call around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of North Day Avenue.

Police say a vehicle was struck by gunfire, then crashed into a ComEd pole. No one was hurt from the crash or fired shots.

Authorities later found the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run in a field near the 1200 block of North Horace Avenue.

Officers found Coleman and Wright in the area after the crash. Banks, a passenger who remained the car, was arrested after officers found him in possession a loaded handgun.

Police also recovered three handguns discarded behind a home on Day Avenue.

Coleman and Wright were charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and no FOID card. Banks was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

All three were taken to Winnebago County Jail. They are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
