ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Bowling and basset hounds. Conferences and tattoos. It doesn't seem like any of these belong together. But, in Rockford all four will lead to a major tourism boost for the region.

The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau announces eight big wins starting in 2020. That includes three professional bowling events. The 2020 Basset Hound Club of American Nationals and two major statewide conferences are coming to the New Embassy Suites. The CVB spring conference in June and the chamber executive fall conference in November. The RACVB projects these eight events will generate 12.6 million dollars of tourism impact to the region.

Lindsay Arellano the RACVB V.P. of Sales and Services speaks, "Not all of them are new. Some of them are repeat customers. But those repeat customers have a rotation schedule, so we have to stay in contact with them and we have to be selected to have them bring back the conference. They are not annual events."
