ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) –- What started out as a weekend hobby turned into a full-time business that's now expanding to the Rockford area.
A service known for helping hoarders is now helping out families close to home, and their name is pretty self-explanatory - the Junk Removal Dudes.
“All our customers have to do is point, and our workers do the rest," says business founder and owner, Alex Broches.
It all started when Alex Broches' mother, who has her own cleaning service, asked him to help out with some odd jobs
“I did that, and I'm like... okay, that was kindof fun, actually," says Broches, recalling that he never expected it to become a business.”
He quickly realized he could do more with the idea.
"What started off like very part-time just became a full-time super-crazy, super-busy business," says Broches, "It can be anything from where we're cleaning out a simple little trailer home where it's just a couple of items to an actual hoarder house."
The business owner says his job is never boring, and a day at work leaves him with plenty of stories to tell.
"We've found World War II memorabilia, we've found guns, we've found coffins in houses, we've found love letters from the 1920's," says Broches, remembering his many shocking discoveries, "60%-70% of what we find - we donate it to salvation army or goodwill. We really try to emphasize recycling."
The Sycamore man believes his customer's reactions are what keep him going.
"The primary one, I'd say is relief. So when they see my coworkers come in, and do all the work, I can just see it in their face, and they say, ‘I feel so relieved now,'" he remarks.
The junk removal dudes' prices range from $100 to $500 depending on how much room your junk takes up in their trailer.
