Teen treated for injuries after being shot in leg in Freeport

FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) –- A 15-year-old is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries after Freeport police say he was shot in the leg.

Police responded to a call before 1 p.m. of a person being shot on the 500 block of W. Clark Street.

The suspect, a 17-year-old male juvenile, has been taken into custody. Police say they recovered a semi-automatic rifle from the suspect’s home.

The suspect has been charged with five counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and additional felony charges.

Police say they are not looking for any other additional suspects. The suspect is being held at a Freeport area juvenile detention center.

The suspect’s hearing is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. He is considered innocent until proven guilty by the court of law.
