Teen carjacked while trying to buy drugs in Rockford

A 17-year-old boy was carjacked while trying to buy drugs in Rockford, according to police.

It happened around 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 in the 4200 block of Auburn Street.

Police say the victim picked up two teens with the intent to purchase drugs. Then, another juvenile allegedly entered the car, showed a handgun and forced the driver out of the car.

Officers found the vehicle near North Rockton Avenue and Acorn Street. The driver stopped near Custer Avenue and Bruner Street.

Three suspects left the car, and Rockford police stopped one.

The arrested suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was stopped by a K-9 and taken to a hospital after a dog bite. He was charged with unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting/obstructing an officer

Police also recovered several baggies of marijuana from the vehicle.

The juvenile is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
