SwedishAmerican doctor earns 'Lifetime Achievement' award
With decades of experience in Rockford, Dr. John Underwood was recognized for his accomplishments Thursday.
Underwood was honored with a 'Lifetime Achievement' award, one of three Excellence in Pediatric Care honors awarded in Illinois each year.
The awards recognize those dedicated to pediatric emergency care and childhood injury prevention initiatives in the state. Each one is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children.
Underwood serves as an emergency physician and the current EMS Medical Director for SwedishAmerican Hospital. He has worked in the Rockford area for 40 years.
“It takes great passion and commitment to provide care and treatment during annual missions trips," said IDPH Acting Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike. "I am honored to award Dr. John Underwood the Ron W. Lee, M.D. Excellence in Pediatric Care Lifetime Achievement Award.”
With help from Underwood, SwedishAmerican Hospital’s Paramedic Program became the first nationally accredited program in the Rockford region and the second in Illinois.
