ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- After more than a year of construction, SwedishAmerican celebrates the grand opening of its new Special Procedures Catheterization Laboratory.
The 12,000 square-foot addition will be used to perform interventional cardiology, radiology and peripheral vascular procedures.
The facility includes five new modern catheterization lab rooms, housed with state-of-the-art technology to reduce radiation and improve the quality of images.
"To be able to get the best quality of those images, with the least amount of risk to the patient in terms of radiation, is absolutely essential and key to providing better care that enables us to treat much more specifically and much more detailed," says Dr. Yaser Siraj, a cardiologist for SwedishAmerican.
SwedishAmerican held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate the new laboratory, located at 1401 E. State Street in Rockford.
