ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- SwedishAmerican breaks ground on a new $9 million multispecialty clinic Wednesday morning in northwest Rockford.

The Edgewater Medical Center will feature more than 20 clinic rooms, seven providers and OB/GYN and family medicine. The clinic will also offer ancillary services like lab and medical imaging.

Hospital officials say they specifically chose the 2909 N. Main Street location to help what they say is an underserved area of Rockford.

The 18,000 square-foot clinic is expected to add about 150 construction jobs along with permanent healthcare positions.

The project should be finished late next year.
