Suspect accused in Cronies shooting to appear in court

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WIFR) -- A 28-year-old man accused of a deadly shooting after a birthday party at Cronie's is due in court Monday afternoon.

Kenneth Johnson faces eight counts of murder in the death of Russell D. Jefferson, 31, of Rockford.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Sunday, shots rang out as a birthday party was winding down at Cronies Bar, at 9032 N. Second Street.

Winnebago County Sheriff's deputies found Jefferson shot inside. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Another man was hurt, but his condition has not been updated since.

According to court records, Johnson had pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with an expired FOID in July.

He's scheduled to appear at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom B at the Winnebago County Justice Center.
