UPDATE: ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- About 2,500 people in the stateline are still without power, after storms swept through the area Wednesday evening.

The 2,500 estimate comes from ComEd and Alliant Energy outage maps.

One of the hardest hit areas is northwest of Rockford. About 850 people are still left without power there.

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) -- It's a close call for a Rockton man, after a tree falls on his home during Wednesday's severe weather.

Tree roots ripped right out of the ground by some of the damaging winds that came through the stateline during the severe weather.

David Gretschmann says he was sleeping in his bedroom just a few feet away from where a tree landed on his home. Gretschmann says his wife woke him up to take cover in their basement, just seconds before the tree came crashing down on the bedroom where he was sleeping.

Gretschmann says he's thankful to be alive.

The tree did cause significant damage to the roof, Gretschmann says it's too early to estimate the cost of the damages but he has contacted his insurance company.
