Stateline students raise money to send a veteran to Washington, D.C.

ROSCOE, Ill. (WIFR) -- A group of Kinnikinnick School students is honoring those who served our country and giving one special veteran that chance to take a trip of a lifetime.

The school held an assembly this morning to teach the students about why it's important we celebrate Veterans Day. The school held a spirit week where they raised money that will help send an area veteran to Washington DC with Vetsroll. Teachers say this is a way for the school to give back to our nation's heroes in a fun way.

“The students donate a dollar each day to participate. So we've had everything from pajama pants and slippers to decade day and hat day so there's so many different days and the kids have a blast with it and they're raising money for a great cause,” said teacher Lindsay Stock.

The students raised more than $700 which is enough to send a veteran to DC. Teachers say they couldn't be more proud of the students for honoring our vets.
