Brother of Stateline native who survived hurricane grateful

MEXICO BEACH, Fla. (WIFR) -- Updated: Oct. 12, 6:25 p.m.

Matt Strand, the brother of Hurricane Michael survivor Tim Strand, is grateful his brother is alive.

"Nobody survives that stuff, especially being 100 yards away from the beach," said Matt. "I don't know how any of those people lived. They're just resilient people."

Tim was interviewed on a national news broadcast, on which Tim says his home was destroyed.

Matt and his family has yet to get in contact with Tim.

Stateline native Tim Strand, who lives near the Florida panhandle devastated by Hurricane Michael, has been missing since early Wednesday morning.

Strand, who grew up in the South Beloit and Rockton area, is the head chef of a restaurant in Mexico Beach. He last talked to his brother Matt Strand on the phone around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Matt says his brother did not want to leave the area and abandon his two dogs.

Cajun Navy is doing a house-to-house ground search in the area impacted by the hurricane.
