ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Local and federal leaders celebrated a year of accomplishments at the Chicago Rockford International Airport on Monday.

Last month, the Airports Council International named RFD as the fastest-growing cargo airport in the world for 2018. More than 2.1 billion pounds of cargo moved through the airport.

Among the dignitaries on hand were Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Sen. Dick Durbin, Rep. Cheri Bustos and Rep. Adam Kinzinger.

"It's your money, it's your federal tax dollars. And the question is, are they being spent wisely? And I will tell you as I look at this airport, I can stand up and say proudly, that on a bipartisn basis, we have taken those tax dollars and put them back to work," says Durbin.

"Saw the Amazon facility today, incredible stuff. I'm honored to be here and be a good partner. This bipartisan partnership that exists, when it comes to representing the state of Illinois, we're going to continue to do that and I just want to say thanks to all of the leadership," says Kinzinger.

The elected leaders also got to preview some of the newest projects at the airport, such as Amazon's new air operation hub.
