ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- More than 100 volunteers gathered at the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence for a deeper look into the culture of volunteerism.
The conference comes during National Volunteer Recognition Week. It focused on recruiting and retaining community volunteers, in addition to retaining a positive experience for volunteers.
Keynote speaker Steve Thomas travels around the country to inspire a productive volunteer culture. He hopes guests will challenge themselves to be better leaders within the community.
"I just want people to be inspired to be more of who they are, just to become the best version of themselves," said Thomas. "We're going to talk about some life and leadership principles that transcend into every part of life so I'm hoping people can take some stuff out and just help them be better."
The Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence hosts monthly exchanges to discuss innovations in volunteerism like diversity and utilizing social media.
