ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - - This weekend's weather calls for snow and icy roads. Dawn Peterson from Bones Tire Service shares some car safety tips.
"You want to pre-inspect your vehicles, look at your tires, check your sensors… you know as far as your tire sensors," said Peterson.
She says most customers come in because they have low tire pressure and it’s important to know your tire size and the amount of air it needs. If you are unsure you can always check inside the door.
Experts also say it's a good idea to have a winter kit in your vehicle at all times incase you get stranded. Some items to include are a snow broom, winter weather wear, and snacks.
Leslie Luther from the American Red Cross reminds people not to use alternate sources for heat like stove or space heater that isn't working properly.
"The other is that we ask that you prepare your home for the instance where you may have to be shut in for a little while, do to the weather. So we say a minimum of a three day supply for your household. They should include non perishable items, first aid kits, and flashlights," said Luther.
