ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Fun and education: that combination was what visitors could find at the Discovery Center Museum's Smashing Pumpkins event.
Organizers say this was the perfect place for anyone who had carved pumpkins setting on their porch that were starting to rot.
This was the perfect way to put pumpkins to good use one last time.
There was also a blind apple taste-test and a chance to make sparkling apple cider, as well as instant apple pie.
"This is very cross-generational. Everybody in your family's gonna have fun with this today. We're smashing pumpkins in our atrium, measuring and massing and seeing that relationship between the size of your pumpkin and the size of the splat," said Discovery Center Museum Educator Meghan Richards.
People attending today could also make a catapult that they can use at home to launch other things.
