Shots fired, three arrested after altercation with Rockford woman's boyfriend and ex-roomate

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Three people were arrested after shots were fired in an altercation involving a Rockford woman, her boyfriend and her ex-roommate.

Mackenzie McCarren, 21, her boyfriend Jerel Hamilton, 20, and her ex-roommate Nicholas Maxey, 19 were arrested Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to a shots fired alert at a home in the 1400 block of Jackson Street. Before arriving, officers say there was a physical confrontation with McCarren and Maxey.

Hamilton was accused of threatening Maxey with a handgun during the dispute. Police say Maxey attempted to get into a van and Hamilton allegedly shot at the vehicle.

Investigators say there were two adults and one child in the van, but no one was hurt.

Maxey reportedly got into a physical confrontation with officers once they arrived. He was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer an criminal damage to a vehicle.

Hamilton was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. McCarren was charged for no possession of a FOID card.

All three were taken to Winnebago County Jail. They are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
