ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Sexual assault charges were announced Wednesday against for two Rockford men from investigations dating back to 2011 and 2017.
Antoine Hill and Tareq Ahmad Alhmdan both face criminal sexual assault charges. Both have been arrested within the past month.
Hill was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual assault, aggravated battery and aggravated unlawful restraint.
On July 25, 2011, Police reported to an apartment in the 300 block of North Church Street in regards to a sexual assault investigation. Officers say a woman had been sexually assaulted by a man she only knew by a nickname. Detectives were not able to identify Hill as the suspect until acquiring forensic evidence last April.
Alhmdan was charged with criminal sexual assault, unlawful restraint and battery.
Detectives began investigating a report of sexual assault in September 2017. A woman was the alleged victim of assault in the 7300 block of Travertine Trail. After collecting forensic evidence and witness interviews, Alhmdan was identified as the suspect.
Both men are being held in Winnebago County Jail. They are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
Winnebago County State's Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announced the charges at a news conference. She says sexual assault is one of the most underreported crimes with nearly 63 percent of victims not reporting it.
