Several animals 'most likely' killed in Rockford house fire

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- AFire crews say a few cats most likely died in a house fire early Tuesday morning in Rockford.

Fire officials responded to the call around 6:15 a.m. at 2934 Collins Street.

Upon arrival, a fire was active and heavy smoke was coming from the back side of the house.

Officials say they could not locate several cats in the home and that they could have died. A dog was rescued and a snake was taken to a neighbor's house.

No humans were hurt.

The fire was under control within ten minutes.

Officials say one room and an attic have heavy fire damage.

The Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary housing.

The cause is undetermined at this time.
