Have you ever wanted to have a snack with a senator? Students at Nashold Early Childhood Center did Wednesday afternoon with Illinois State Sen. Steve Stadelman.

Sen. Stadelman (D-34th District) spoke to students about what he does in Springfield while the kids had their afternoon snack of cookies and juice.

School leaders say the idea behind the visit is to let Stadelman see what an afternoon looks like at a grant-funded early childhood center.

Stadelman says making sure kids are ready before they enter kindergarten is key to success in our schools.

"We're looking for ways to make sure that kids here have additional resources, the school district has additional resources to provide more learning opportunities for kids this age," says Stadelman. "Whatever we can do to make sure they have a head start before they start kindergarten, to help ensure they're going to be successful academically, that will make our community better."
