ILLINOIS (WIFR) –The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office is reinstating the mailing of reminders for vehicle registration renewals. The mailings were suspended in October 2015 due to a lack of funding as part of the state budget impasse.

In order to offset the mailing costs, the office of Secretary of State Jesse White plans to offer space on the mailing for advertising. Illinois drivers are also being encouraged to sign up for email notifications to cut down on postage costs.

Thousands of Illinois drivers built up millions of dollars in fines following the decision to stop sending reminders last fall.

Vehicle owners can sign up for email notifications by visiting the Secretary of State website, www.cyberdriveillinois.com. To register for the program, vehicle owners will need their assigned registration ID and PIN, which can be found on their current vehicle registration card. If that information is not available, they can call the Secretary of State public inquiry division at 800-252-8980 to obtain the Registration ID and PIN.
