Second man charged for Jamie Stephens' death pleads not guilty

Joshua J. Whittie, 19, a second man charged for the murder of Jamie Stephens in December 2018, pleads not guilty to charges.

Police say Stephens was

​​ on the side of a road on Dec. 10 in rural Winnebago County. He died from several gunshot wounds.

Another suspect, Nickles E. Parks, faces the same charges and pled not guilty to the murder of Stephens in court last month.

Whittie's next court appearance is set for April 30.

A second man has been charged for the murder of Jamie Stephens in December 2018.

Joshua J. Whittie, 19, of Rockford, faces charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and concealing a homicidal death.

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized charges Wednesday and obtained a warrant for Whittie's arrest.

Detectives arrested the first

, Nickles T. Parks, 26, on Jan. 23 on the same charges. Parks pled not guilty to the murder of Stephens in court last month.

Police say Stephens was

Parks and Whittie are considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
