ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- Illinois students looking to pursue higher education in the state this year can take advantage of a scholarship opportunity through the sheriff's office.
Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana is awarding two $500 scholarships to qualifying students.
Applicants will answer an essay question reading, "What can citizens in your county do to help law enforcement strive to better police and protect the community?"
Students need to be enrolled right now in the 2018-2019 school year.
The money can go toward tuition, books and fees.
