ROSCOE, Ill. (WIFR) - Students from Stone Creek and Ledgewood schools in Roscoe raise nearly $1,500 to help storm victims.
During a veteran's week ceremony, the kids gave the Red Cross the check to give to hurricane relief. Teachers say the kids had one week and a goal of raising a dollar per student.
Third-grade teacher Erikka Coletta says the fundraiser helped teach students about ways to give back after a natural disaster.
"The quote about look for the heroes in these negative situations the kids get worried when they see natural disasters and things and instead of teaching them to be fearful we want to teach them to help out, so doing this simple fundraiser is a simple way to show that to our kids," says Coletta.
Coletta says in her classroom she used the storms to teach her students about hurricanes.
