Rockton pastor's hobby raises money for police, fire crews

ROCKTON, Ill. (WIFR) -- A long-time hobby for one stateline pastor also serves as a way to give back to the community.

Pastor Dan Herman, a pastor at the Old Stone Church in Rockton, began woodworking at the age of 16. Once he had three children, he began making wooden rocking horses.

After realizing his talent and passion, Pastor Dan made even more wooden horses to give away to local organizations to auction them off and use that money to help others.

Most recently, Pastor Dan donated two horses to Rockton police and fire departments for future raffles.

"The funds go for supporting community issues for our firefighters and police officers, Jaimie Cox Foundation and the fire department in terms of scholarships," says Pastor Dan. "As a chaplain for both departments, I want to support them any way I can."

You can enter to win one of the rocking horses at the Rockton Fire Protection Pancake Breakfast on October 6.
