Rockford's Italian market opens for the season

ROCKFORD, Ill (WIFR) --- The beautiful weather made for the perfect day at the grand opening of Pasqua Mercato, Rockford's first Italian market.

Pasqua Mercato is a tribute to the matriarch of the Lino's restaurant family, Pasqua, who was also the co-founder. At the heart of the market is the idea of family.

"To pay homage to the Italian tradition as well. So the mother of the family, specifically, is the one that kind of holds the whole family together," says Charlie Schweinler, a member of the Lino's family.

The market features local vendors from the area including Raines Honey Farm.

"All the vendors are nice and friendly. There's a little bit of everything for everybody at this market. we're excited to be here," says head beekeeper of Raines Honey Farm, Phillip Raines.

Pasqua Mercato is open every Sunday for the next 11 weeks at the Lino's Restaurant parking lot. Admission to the marker is free.
