Rockford tourism reaches all time high

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Tourism throughout the Rockford region is at an all-time high.

Plans continue to grow throughout the Rockford area to keep increasing tourism. The Rockford Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says new developments, especially hotel developments, such as the Amerock will be a major factor in bringing in more visitors.

“I think Rockford’s future is kind of moving up and to the right in really great directions,” says President and CEO of the RACVB, John Groh.

Within the last year, visitor spending throughout the Rockford region reaches an all-time high of 353 million dollars, while creating thousands of jobs.

“The opportunities are endless in our community as the population around us grows, as the region strengthens; we’re going to see more and more people coming to Rockford for our tourism product.”

Sporting events and conventions, along with local attractions such as gardens, parks, City Market, and the Speedway has helped to increase the number of visitors tremendously.

“We want people to come here and to visit because it’s not all bad. It’s not all the negativity. It’s a great community,” says Ray Padron of the Rockford Speedway.

The RACVB says the events that take place throughout the year are huge, but the city needs more places to accommodate the large crowds of people.
