A Rockford teen was charged for a false police report Thursday night, allegedly telling officers that shots were fired from a suspicious armed subject.

The teen, a 16-year-old juvenile, was charged with felony disorderly conduct.

Rockford patrol and district officers responded to Dahlquist park in the 3200 block of Oak Grove Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

A call had indicated that shots fired in the area and a suspicious subject was on the loose and possibly armed with a rifle.

Officers found fireworks, but did not find weapons after searching the area.

Police found a 16-year-old matching the suspect description. Investigators say that teen had called 911 and made a false report.

The teen was taken into custody without incident. He was also cited for possessing fireworks in a park.

The juvenile is considered innocent unless proven guilty by the court of law.
