Rockford police seek experienced officers, open lateral transfer program

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The Rockford Police Department is seeking sworn, experienced police officers to join the team.

The department has opened its Lateral Transfer Program, which runs through Sept. 2. The goal of the lateral program is to get experienced police officers trained quickly to serve Rockford.

“The process is streamlined for laterals,” explained Recruiting Officer Katy Statler. “For entry-level officers, it can take a minimum of one year before they are put in a squad car by themselves, for lateral officers that happens in less than two months.”

The Lateral Transfer Program has brought 14 officers to Rockford since 2016.

Rockford police welcome in-state and out-of-state officers interested in the Lateral Transfer Program. Candidates must be full-time employees and have at least one year of experience with their current department.
