Rockford police report: Crime down through August 2019

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- The city of Rockford's latest year-to-date report shows crime is down overall through August 2019 compared to the first eight months of 2018.

According to statistics from the Rockford Police Department, violent crimes, property crimes, robberies, aggravated assaults, shots fired and auto thefts are all down.

These were the reported comparisons from last year:

Violent crimes: Down 17%.
Jan.-Aug. 2018: 1451
Jan.-Aug. 2019: 1211

Robberies: Down 21%.
2018: 226
2019: 178

Property crimes: Down 13%.
2018: 3843
2019: 3336

Aggravated assaults: Down 16%.
2018: 1054
2019: 887

Shots fired: Down 19%.
2018: 338
2019: 271

Auto thefts: Down 8%.
2018: 302
2019: 277

According to the report, 53 percent of aggravated assaults this year are domestic related.
