ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A little more than a month away from 815 Day, Rockford leaders are looking ahead to this year's city-wide celebration.

As preperations begin, Rockford residents are encouraged to show off their city pride ahead of August 15, known as 815 Day.

Locals are encouraged to get involved with a photo challenge and submit a photo that creatively demonstrates their pride for the city of Rockford. You can submit photos for a contest until August 9.

A panel of judges will decide the most creative photos in both adult and youth categories. Winners will be announced at the Rockford Day kickoff event at Culture Shock at 8:15 a.m.

"'I'm really looking forward to the photo challenge because I think for the last several years we focused a lot on retail and restaurants that we have," said Rockford mayor Tom McNamara. "I'm really looking forward to people sharing their source of pride for the city of Rockford."

Twenty businesses have signed up to participate in the event so far by offering special deals and promotions on August 15.
